Day 6: Still Trooping

I haven’t posted in a while because I tried to stay busy all weekend. I went out Friday, drank a lot and guess what happened…I got drunk (no, I didn’t smoke). I wasn’t even too tempted in a room full of people smoking. I was on guard the whole night though, to make sure I don’t slip.

  1. Congrats! I think it is awesome that you were able to do your thing and not smoke. I’m one who hasn’t because of my past history with quitting and drinking but also because I so rarely went out for drinks anyway (no sense starting that right now while quitting). My dear friend who told me about Chantix is someone who hangs out with people in smoky places where drinking is involved, and so it made some sense for him to jump right back in on his first day. Everyone is different, but as long as we all get there smoke-free, it’s a good thing!

  2. Good for you! I wish I could do that, but I can’t! I too, already know from history of past quits…alcohol is one of my main triggers. I’m ok at home, having an occasional beer or two, in fact I had one tonight. But going out socially to places where drinking and smoking are going on, I can not do it. At least for me, it’s not permanent, in 2-3 months (just in time for the holidays, yay!) I’ll be ok to go out. Basically, during the first few months of my quit, I will be a hermit…and that’s ok for now. Continued success on your quit!

  3. Impressive – I know it’s a challenge. I have associated cigarettes with a beverage my entire adult life. Fortunately, here in California you can’t smoke inside so it’s not too bad going out. Still… Keep up the good work.

  4. I am glad that I was successful, but I know that I was because I was conscious of the fact that I had to be. Hopefully, I don’t get complacent in the future and slip up.

I have to admit, that it did help that my girlfriend was with me, and would have kicked my ass if I did slip. I won’t always have that luxury.

  5. I’m sure your “guard” helped out alot! But, it sure sounds like you passed a quick test. A toast to strength! So, how have things been going for you so far? Havn’t seen a new blog in a few days! Continue to stay strong :)

  6. I’m just saying “hi” and hoping all is going fabulously.

  7. Thanks for stopping by and keeping me honest Maggie.

Things are still going well with the quitting, but not so well with the blogging unfortunately. I did post again today though, after your gentle nudge :)

  8. Glad I could pester ;)

  9. Good for you. I quit Chantix after 2 months due to nausea. But, I find there are lots of things I need to work on – new coping strategies. I have a blog called Quit Coping and I wondered if you want to exchange links? I’ll had you to mine now. Quitting is hard, but totally worth it! You can find me at http://www.quitcoping.com
