Day 3: Things Are Getting Easier
I went to sleep last night with the novelty of my quit wearing off, and wondered (pessimistically) about how long I could last with just patience and commitment. I thought today would be really hard, but thankfully, it was not. I still had cravings but they were a lot more manageable, almost easy.
Unrelated to smoking, I did make a big mistake today. I left my windows open to air out my place while I was at work, and a huge storm hit Chicago.
“Hours after a fast-moving storm packing winds over 70 m.p.h. turned skies from day to night across the Chicago area Thursday — damaging buildings, splitting trees, causing flooding, and bringing planes and trains to a halt — the rain continued to fall.”
Now I live right next to the lake, in one of the highest wind speed areas in the “windy city”. Needless to say, I got home from work to my apartment pretty much rearranged (and very well aired out).
I’m not sure if closing the windows, would have helped much though, since I had them closed in my bedroom, and the wall unit air-conditioner was blown out of the wall.
Nothing valuable got damaged though, so it didn’t get me too stressed, it was almost amusing in a weird way. I just had a lot of cleanup work to do.

Glad to hear today wasn’t so bad and that you made it through the storm at least somewhat intact, but sheesh, still sounds nutty. I grew up in Chicago, and all of my people are still there to this day. All of them! I miss it sometimes, but not when there are tornadoes in the sky or snow on the ground or windchill temps under -20 degrees. I’m envious of anyone living next to the lake – that’s just too awesome.
You are doing great, so just keep going!
Well, well talk about a small world! I’m a Chicagoan too, born and raised!! Moved to SC about 10yrs ago…why? Um, I ask myself that question EVERY day! LOL! No, I did it for love
my husband’s family is here. Anyway, yea, I heard about the storm from family and it was on the morning news. Glad you didn’t loose anything valuable! Too crazy!! I REALLY miss Chicago, but I must agree with Maggie, I do NOT miss snow, below-zero temps, and daily wind chill factors! I DO miss the lake, downtown, the mag mile, REAL pizza…ok, let me stop, I’m making myself homesick!
Back to your quit, glad to hear things are getting easier. My quit day is tomorrow! Today is my LAST DAY AS A SMOKER!! Anyway, keep up the good work. Hang in there!
Do all smokers come from Chicago?
Darn it MsTek, now why did ya have to go and mention pizza? I had that safely tucked away where I wasn’t remembering it. Unos *does* deliver around the country, but I’ve never done it…
Yep, qfg, all good things originate from Chicago, not that smoking itself is good, but we were very good smokers who are now very good quitters and from Chicago
OMG! That just sounds so eerie!
Glad you’re staying strong and in high spirits!
