Introduction

This blog is to serve as a log for my attempt to quit me quitting smoking.

Hopefully, I will be able to look back on it, a few months from now, in wonder of how far I’ve come; and if it serves as help for anyone else looking to quit then all the better.

So, I just got back from the doctor’s office, $120 poorer, but with a chantix prescription. For those who don’t know what chantix is, please read here for the official description, and here for the unofficial/unbiased description.

The green case is for the first week, as I ween on the drug, and the blue ones are for each subsequent week. I am a little apprehensive, since zyban messed me up so bad. But unlike zyban its not an antidepressant, so hopefully things turn out better.

The plan is to take the first dose tomorrow and have my last cigarette on the the 21st. I know, I know, the 21st is not 7 days from my first dose but I feel that I might need a few extra days to get mentally ready.

  1. I am wishing you all the best! Today is Day 52 smoke-free for me, and Chantix helped me tremendously, even if it still requires my cooperation in wanting to be and stay quit.

I planned to quit on Chantix Day 15 because I thought I might need more time, and it turns out that Day 13 was my lucky day, so I do think it varies with everyone. It’s smart to allow some time since you want to be good and ready for the very last time you’ll quit smoking.

I’ve been blogging my way through my experience, and lots of others have been doing the same. It’s been really helpful to both read and to write. I’ve got links to tons of those blogs over on my blog if you are interested in reading more about how others are experiencing the Chantix way of quitting.

    I’ll be reading along!

  2. Thanks, I left a comment on your blog at https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=9531030&postID=3326538093369560120

  3. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I’d love to add you to my list of other Chantix bloggers if you’d like. I know you are anonymous and all, but is there any name I can call you when I mention that I’ve added you? If not, QFG will be the shorthand ;)

  4. Maggie, sure I’d be happy if you added me to your blog list. QFG sounds good.

I start my first pill today :) I’ll keep you posted on my blog later today on how it feels.

  5. I’ve added you to the list, and next time I post I’ll mention it.

Are you comfortable revealing whether you are a man or a woman? It doesn’t matter other than the limits of our English language – knowing which makes it easier than saying “he/she” when I refer to your blog ;)

I’ll be interested to hear how it goes taking your first Chantix today! I’d recommend taking it with food and water as it says because the nausea seems to get a lot of people (like me).

  6. Thanks for the advice, I plan on taking it after work today, so that I can deal with any nausea in the comfort of my own home. And then once I am on two pills switching to morning/evening.

In the interest of being able to be referred to easier, I am a man.

  7. Consider yourself added, Mr. QFG!
